I have always been passionate about two things in my life – one is drawing and the other is horses.
I won a scholarship in my senior year of high school to attend Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio. That gave me a good foundation in the field of art but not in the realism I wanted to depict.
Marriage and family consumed most of my time when my children were young but I dabbled in art once in a while. In 2004 I was finally able to buy my first horse, a Quarter Horse mare named Nifty who has been the subject of my drawings as well as my faithful trail riding companion.
When I found a talented teacher of colored pencil, it opened a whole new world of art to me. I studied with Linda Lucas Hardy for 5-1/2 years. Finding the surface that I love, suede matboard, also made a difference. These tools are what I work with now and my main focus has been horses. I have entered local competitions around the Metroplex for the last three years and have won prizes in McKinney, Irving, Grand Prairie, the State Fair of Texas, Keller and Richardson, TX art shows.
Imaging on the Square in McKinney, TX is my gallery that shows my originals and prints. I am a member of CPSA (Colored Pencil Society of America) and an Associate Member of WAOW (Women Artists of the West). I was recently accepted into AAEA (American Academy of Equine Artists) and was in their 2010 Fall Show in Lexington. This was in connection with the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games which were held in the United States for the first time. I am also a member of IEA (International Equine Artists).
